On October 5, 2016, Cincinnati Public Schools Athletics held the very first Scholar-Athlete Leadership Conference. This event brought over 100 students coming from 12 high schools together to discuss characteristics of being a leader through sports. In addition to reviewing these characteristics, each high school was also challenged to create a "Scholar-Athlete Leadership Team". These teams at each school will now have the goal to promote leadership, respect, and teamwork, along with a variety of other responsibilities throughout the district in efforts to promote a healthy and educational experience for all student athletes. Finally, each school also collaborated with one another by completing a group giveback project for elementary schools throughout the district. School supplies, nutrition guides, and other important materials were placed into bags by each scholar-athlete at the conference, along with a hand written letter to a particular student attending one of five selected elementary schools in CPS. Building a positive relationship between the elementary schools and our high schools was one of many focuses of the event and this was achieved with the excellent participation from each high school in attendance.
