Hughes Impresses on Opening Night

In a highly anticipated match-up with Deer Park to kick off the entire Ohio Varsity Football season, the Big Red took care of business with a dominating 2nd half effort as they went on to win 42-7. This marks the 3rd time in 4 seasons that Hughes takes home a week 1 victory and they did it on the highest stage in Ohio.

Coach Mobley has spoken to the improvement in his team's ability and mindset throughout the entire locker room during the off season and it showed on the field during the Wednesday night Skyline Crosstown Showdown contest. The large crowd on hand got a great look at the difference between then and now, as supporters from all over Cincinnati Public Schools came and watched.

After making a few key mistakes in the first half, including a fumble on the 1 yard line that would have put the Big Red up 2 scores, the young men that represent Clifton kept their composure and fought until the end. Key performances by AJ Smith and company proved to be the difference as Hughes out-ran and over-powered the competition.

Hughes will have their home opener at Stargel Stadium next week when they take on Reading on Saturday, September 2 at 6:00 pm. Make sure you come out and support the Big Red!
