Week 1 In The Books

After the first week of high school football in Ohio, the SOPL walks away with some big headlines! Hughes, Taft, Aiken, Shroder, Gamble & Riverview East all came away with huge wins and will look to keep the momentum flowing this Friday night.

Huge performances by the likes of Tyler Long (DE, Hughes), Deshawn Lawrence (WR, Taft), Kayvon Britten (RB, Western Hills) & Derrian Wilkens (DE, Aiken) gave each SOPL team something to think about for future match-ups. Several of these schools also played in the Skyline Crosstown Showdown so they were able to showcase their teams on the highest stage.

With week 1 finally behind us, we have a few major week 2 match-ups to look forward to. For starters, Taft will travel to Wyoming in what's to be a great contest if it's anything like last year's game. Wyoming is coming off a huge win but Taft comes off a more impactful win on the road against the tough Mt Healthy Owls.

Aiken will host Madeira at Stargel Stadium in their home opener. Senior QB Tim Williams is looking to come back strong off a tough week 1 game in which he did not find the end zone. After speaking to Tim after the game, his goal was to "work, work, work" during this week in practice. "We have to be better", said Williams. Look for the Falcons to come out firing on all cylinders.
