Oyler's Katie Mason Breaks Single Game Strikeout Record

Junior Katie Mason broke the single game strikeout record on April 10th in the game against Gamble Montessori with 17 strikeouts.  She had a five inning no hitter in the game against Hughes on April 12th.  Going into her junior year this season, Katie is posed to end the year as the softball team's all time leader in wins and strikeouts.

Katie began her softball career as a freshman starting out as a catcher, then switching to pitcher halfway through the season.  According to coach Brian Saylor, "Katie is also one of our best hitters, and could easily play any position on the diamond. She is currently hitting .667 with 11 RBI."  When Katie was asked about winning 4 games in 5 days and her success, Katie humbly replied, " I feel great about the wins, I am a little tired, but it was worth it.  I look forward for the rest of the games, and hopefully we have a great rest of the season."

When Katie isn't on the softball field, she is focused on her academics as she maintains above average grades, works for the student newspaper and has a part-time job at Frisch's.  Katie lives with her Aunt and extended family, having tragically lost her mom in 2012.  Adversity hasn't stopped Katie and her hard work is evident both on and off the field.  Congratulations Katie!

The Lady Madhatters take the field at 4:30 pm on April 22nd with a double header against Shroder.
